Your Marrakech to Fes Morocco Desert Trip will depart from your hotel or riad at 07h30 AM to Ksar d’Aït-Ben-Haddou through Tizi-ntichka pass and the high Atlas Mountains. Numerous stops will be made along the way. Visit the UNESCO world heritage Ksar d’Aït-Ben-Haddou, which was also served as a set for various Hollywood blockbusters. We continue to Ouarzazate and visit Kasbah Taourirte before lunch (free time). In the afternoon, we drive to Boumalne Dades via the Valley of the Roses before we reach our boutique guest house located in Dades Valley.
Dinner and overnight
After breakfast, today’s journey will start by driving along the road of 1001 Kasbahs to Tinghir oasis. You will be enjoying the amazing scenery along the way of the remaining of fortified villages that were hosting the caravan roads until early 2Oth century.
Upon arrival at Tinghir, which was a military post during the French occupation, we will deviate into a secondary road to the oasis. Feel free to walk next to the stream and watch the locals farming and herding their cattle. You walk will end at one of the magnificent scenes of your tour: Todgha Gorges. After lunch at one of the local cafés, we continue to Rissani, which is one of the holiest towns in Morocco as the actual dynasty ruling Morocco ‘’ The Alaouites ‘’ is originated here, and its founder is buried locally. Rissani is also famous as a starting point of the ancient caravan roads crossing the Sahara desert all the way to Tomboctou. From here, we will cross some rocky terrain all the way to Merzouga, where our camel caravan will be waiting for us.
Enjoy a camel ride over Erg Chebbi dunes to watch an amazing sunset, before we return to our Sahara desert camp, nestled in the middle of nowhere. Enjoy dinner under the stars while entertained by our local nomads hosts playing their drums all night.
After breakfast at your camp, we depart on a long drive to Fes crossing the Ziz Vlley through Errachidia which is the capital of Tafilalt region, and we continue to Midelt where we will have lunch at leisure before we keep driving across the Middle Atlas Mountians with its Cedar Forests and Berber towns of Imouzzar and Ifran.
We arrive at Fes late in the afternoon. Your Marrakech to Fes desert tour will end with a drop off at your Fes riad or hotel of your choice.
Unforgettable experience!!
We took 3 day tour starting from Marrakesh. Mohamed “Africa” picked us up in the morning in Toyota Prado and drove through some interesting landscapes and villages. Highlights were driving thru High Atlas mountain and walking thru kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. As Mohamed was from Berber people, he explained a lot of things about nomadic life of Berbers. Mohamed injected a lot of fun in our long road trip, giving each of us Arabic names! We stopped in front of a movie studio in Ouarzazate but we didn’t bother going in as it seemed expensive. We arrived in Babylon hotel where we got to stay in a cool building built into the side of rocky hill.
On Second day, we saw Dades Valley and walked along a stream but mostly driving. We dropped in to a clothing shop and took some pictures and bought some shirt and scarves for the camel ride. (In hindsight we probably paid too much for this one)
We relaxed at a hotel in Merzouga for a little bit where we settled the balance of the tour bill with the owners of the tour company. Then we went on the camel ride for about 2 hours to the luxury tent. It was quite hot at the start but as the sun started to go down, it got better and we really enjoyed the whole atmosphere of trekking thru Sahara on camel back!
Riding a camel wasn’t easy on our crotches but it was still worth the pain!
Staying at the luxury tent was amazing – it was fine without air conditioning and it had nice hot water and clean towels. The staff put on rhythmic show with bongos and singing, and we danced along to enjoy the atmosphere.
Then we drove most of the third day to get to Fes other than seeing Ziz Valley, and Ifran, and said goodbye to our guide friend Mohamed.
Tips: Be prepared for a lot of driving but rewarded with interesting sceneries.
Bring sunscreen or wear long sleeve and pants to block the sun for camel ride.
Meal times are much later than what I was used to – Expect lunch to be 1:30 or 2pm and dinner to be 8 or 9pm.
It was a long ride but a great way to see many facets of Morocco.
4 day Sahara tour
Amazing experience. The tour is well worth your money. Camel rides along with sightseeing. Tour is well organised. khalil was an amazing guide and made this experience unforgettable. Highly recommended
Awesome, unique experience in the desert
My friends and I had an amazing experience with the tour and guide (khalil). He was extremely friendly and accommodating. We got to see many sights and experienced a day in the Sahara Desert while riding camels. It was fun to learn from their local culture and enjoy their local cuisine. Would definitely recommend this!
Wonderful Experience!
Had the time of our lives riding dromedary through the desert of Morocco. Our guide, khalil, was Super helpful and always asked to make sure we were okay throughout the trip.
Furthermore, khalil also made a few side stops along the way to introduce us to various products made by Morocco. The accommodation provided throughout the trip was great as well. We went when it was 35-40 degrees and all the accommodation had air-conditioning. Much to our surprise! Would give this tour a 10/10 and I highly recommend everyone to try this!
